The basics.
What is Doughy™? +
We're a modern tax savings platform. We "do taxes" backward. Savings first. Filing after. Our community of licensed tax & accounting professionals in the US is specifically trained in advanced tax strategies. Many individuals and business owners overpay taxes when they don't have an experienced tax advisor to review their tax filings each year.
What exactly is a Tax Savings Review? +
A one-time review of your situation by a licensed tax advisor, focused on one thing: finding the tax savings you're missing. You share your last return and a few details. We check your income, cashflow, and assets against hundreds of tax strategies, deductions, and credits, then hand you a written plan showing exactly what you've been overpaying and the moves to fix it. It's the first step in everything we do, and it starts where most firms finish.
Who is Doughy for, and who is it not for? +
Doughy works best for households earning $150,000 or more and for business owners, especially owners with equipment, property, or a growing company. That's where the savings we find reliably cover the cost. If you're under $150,000 today, a full review usually isn't the right first move, and we'd rather tell you that than charge you for a plan that may not pay for itself. Run the free calculator and we'll point you to the right next step either way.
Do I have to leave my current accountant? +
No. A review doesn't require firing anyone. Plenty of clients start with just the review to see what they've been missing, and keep whoever files their taxes today. If you later want us to handle everything, that's your call, never a requirement.
How is this different from my accountant just doing my taxes? +
Most accountants file what already happened. Finding savings before you file isn't their job. We do it backwards: a licensed advisor looks for savings first, puts the plan in place, then handles the filing. Finding your savings is the job, not an afterthought.
What it costs, and what if it doesn't work.
What does it cost? +
Every price is on our Pricing page, and there's no sales call. A Personal Tax Review is $397 and a Business Tax Review is $597, both one-time. Putting your plan in place is quoted from your plan, usually $500 to $25,000 depending on what's found, and your review fee comes off that price if you start within 30 days. Ongoing plans start at $99 a month for individuals and $599 a month for businesses. Or take the plan and do it yourself at no charge.
What if my review doesn't find much? +
Then it's free. Your review pays for itself, or it's free. Your choice of cash back or credit toward your next service. Full terms are on our Pricing page.
Why is the cost to put a plan in place such a wide range? +
Because the fee scales with what's found. A couple of moves for a two-person business might run a few thousand dollars. A full rebuild for a large, complex business can run more, but only when the savings are in the hundreds of thousands. We never recommend a strategy that isn't worth more than it costs to put in place. Your quote comes from your plan, so you see the savings before you see the price.
Do I have to sign up for the ongoing plan? +
No. The review stands on its own. The ongoing plan is a choice you make after you see your savings, never a requirement to get them. Most clients do go on to lock in and keep saving, but that's because it's worth it, not because they have to.
How do I know which plan is right for me? +
You don't have to guess. Your advisor already knows your numbers from your review, so they tell you which plan fits, and they always start with the smallest one that covers you. Your plan grows because your business does, not because we decided to charge you more.
Your data, your risk, and who's on the other side.
Is this legal? Will it raise my audit risk? +
Every strategy we recommend is legal, IRS-compliant, and reviewed by a licensed tax advisor before it goes in your plan. We only use what the tax code already allows; we just look harder than most. On audit risk: the IRS tends to look at messy records, not legitimate deductions with proper documentation, and we show you exactly what to document and how. Done correctly and documented, claiming what's legally yours is how the tax code is meant to work.
How is my Social Security number and financial data protected? +
Your information is encrypted in transit (256-bit) and at rest. The vendors we rely on carry SOC 2 Type II certification. Your books stay in your own QuickBooks or Xero; we work inside them, we never move them. And we never sell or share your data.
Can AI really be trusted with my taxes? +
Not on its own, and we'd never ask you to. Our AI does the heavy lifting: it reads your documents and checks your situation against hundreds of tax strategies, deductions, and credits, fast. But nothing reaches your plan until a licensed tax advisor reviews it. AI assists. It never advises alone.
Who actually does the work? +
Licensed tax advisors: CPAs, EAs, and Licensed Tax Advisors, all US-based. Your review is done and signed off by a real licensed professional, not a chatbot and not an overseas team. They work from the same tax savings strategies perfected by over 1,800 tax advisors.
What happens once you start.
What do I need to share? +
Your most recent tax return and a few details about your income, your business if you have one, and what you own. That's your part, and it's most of what we need. We'll tell you exactly what to share and how, right after you start.
How long does a review take? +
Typical turnaround is 48 to 72 hours once we have your documents. Typical, not a promise; some situations take a bit longer, and we'll tell you if yours will.
What do I get back? +
A written Tax Savings Plan: exactly what you've been overpaying, the specific moves to fix it, and what each one is worth to you. Then two ways forward. We put the plan in place for you, or you take it and do it yourself. It's yours either way.
What does the review actually check? +
Three things, every time: your income, your cashflow, and your assets. We call it the Doughy Tax Savings Recipe™, and it's the method behind every review and every ongoing plan. The full story is on our How It Works page.
